Whether as a discoverer of our lovely small town or as a local – the tourist information Zella-Mehlis offers a wide range of brochures with tourist information about leisure, cultural and sports activities in the state-approved resort, the surrounding area, the destination Thuringian Forest and in the Free State of Thuringia , a rich selection of souvenirs and literature, ticket service for events, concerts and Flixbus, accessibility for people with walking and hearing impairments, children’s play area, reading area, public barrier-free toilet including baby changing table and much more.
But now there is a new and very special experience in our service facility!
The legendary figure of the robber baron Ruppertus from the legendary Ruppberg near Zella-Mehlis – once a wild fellow who is said to have been up to mischief in medieval times, but today is a pleasant fellow – has been reported on the tourist Facebook channel of our tourist information for several years about things that are interesting, worth seeing and hiking in and around the state-approved resort.
From now on he welcomes visitors to our house virtually and almost in real life as well as personally in the entrance area. Here they can have a truly chivalrous souvenir photo taken of their stay with him and, if they wish, they can forward the photo to themselves or send a greeting to family, friends or work colleagues by e-mail from the counter – of course taking data protection into account.
Together with the Rooom AG Jena – winner of the Thuringian Tourism Prize 2019 – the digital project was implemented from an interaction of analogue and virtual reality, also known as augmented reality.
This digital animation of the local symbolic figure thus contributes to the ongoing digitization in tourism, creates an additional experience for visitors – combined with a living culture of welcome already in the tourist information and currently represents a unique selling point among the tourist information in the Free State of Thuringia.
